My Au Natural Look
I’m not sure how it all started. Maybe it was that day I looked in the mirror and thought I look unkempt and older than my years (certainly older than the younger person inside this body. You know inside every more mature person there is a younger person wondering what the hell happened 😁.) Not that old is bad, it’s really a privilege to live another year, but....
I started thinking about dying my hair, again. I used to dye my hair every 6 weeks but once I stopped working outside of the home, I decided to stop dying my hair (all those chemicals can’t be good for you, was my thinking.) You know, gray hair is sneaky. It starts with a little gray at the temples and then, one day, you look in the mirror and wonder when those sneaky gray hairs took over?
I made another decision when I stopped “going to work.” I stopped wearing makeup (all those chemicals...blah blah blah.) Don’t get me wrong. Not bothering with makeup was great. Because it’s so much more than just putting on makeup. It’s washing your face morning and night. It’s moisturizing, moisturizing, moisturizing. It’s plucking and waxing.
So you see, I not only had one foot on the slippery slope of “au natural”, I slid all the way down the hill.
But, I have to add, if au natural is your style, go for it. Be confident. Know that you are awesome just the way you are. Don’t do all the beauty stuff for anyone but yourself.
And that’s the change for me. I was dying my hair, wearing makeup and “dressing up” because I felt I “had” to and that’s the wrong reason. Now I’m doing all this because I want to. And I know when I don’t want to anymore I’m going to stop -- without guilt!
Time to Spruce Up
Now I have a Pinterest board to help me update my wardrobe as well. This should be interesting. I subscribe to the Project 333 approach so I have a small wardrobe with less decisions to make about what to wear. I would describe my style as Boho Minimalist. But I know there are a few pieces I can incorporate into my closet that will give me a more updated look. My very stylish friend is assisting me in refining my “look” and helping me decide what pieces I should buy without breaking the bank.
Who knows. Maybe when the weather warms up I might even shave my legs. 🤔😁
Thanks for stopping by,
